Cuba Participates in 44th UNESCO Sustainable Development Forum

Yahima Esquivel, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Cuba to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) addressed the UNESCO forum currently taking place on Education-Heritage and Sustainable Development.

This year’s theme for the 44th session of the UNESCO Forum for Sustainable Development is ‘Learning and Teaching for Peaceful and Sustainable Societies: From early childhood to primary and secondary education’.

Ms. Esquivel presented Cuba’s experiences implementing the Convention on the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage in Education for Sustainable Development.

Ms. Esquivel said education is at the center of the heritage management model in Cuba where culture is promoted as the the driver of sustainable development.

The UNESCO Committee for World Heritage is taking place in Fuzhou in China. The virtual event began on July 16 and will run until the 30th of this month. Cuba participates in the forum as a party state country which adheres to the World Heritage Convention of 1972.
