Actor Will Smith Runs in the Marabana 2018

Popular American actor Will Smith joined thousands of runners in Sunday’s Global Ports Marabana Cuba/ Maracuba 2018 in Havana.

The Marabana marathon is open to all runners and walkers elites, amateurs, masters, disabled (blind, deaf and runners in wheelchairs) at distances of 42.195m marathon, 21.097 meters half marathon or 10K.  Some 6,000 runners and 1,400 foreigners participated in this year’s event, the 32nd in the history of Marabana to take place.  Marabana is the most popular marathon held in Cuba.

Marabana takes place every third Sunday in November, a very important date for not only the city of Havana (the founding of the City of San Cristobal de La Habana and its proclamation by UNESCO as World Heritage site), but also a day for Cuban sports,  – the National Day of Physical Culture and Sport.

As part of the project, Marabana is held simultaneously in other municipalities throughout Cuba encouraging physical activity and participation.

Trophies were awarded to the first three men and women for each category in half marathon and full marathon race.  The event is inclusive and included categories and prizes for runners with special disabilities.

Will Smith ran the 21 km half marathon.
