AFD and Cuban Joint Project to Benefit Havana River Cleanup

Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and Cuba signed a line of credit to co-finance a clean-up project for the Luyano River on Havana Bay.

The agreement establishes a EUR 64 000 000 line of credit. It is considered one of the largest granted by France’s Development Agency since its establishment in Cuba in 2016.

The document was signed by Rodrigo Malmierca, Cuba’s Foreign Investment Minister and Guillaume Graff, the FDA’s representative in Cuba.

The project, co-funded by the FDA and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and the French-Cuban fund aims to improve the environment of the Havana Bay by constructing a new wastewater collector with modern technology.

The contract is a result of the willingness of France and Cuba to further expand economic relations, and step forward in the joint funding of projects that contribute to the island’s economic development.
