China and Cuba Expanding Trade Ties

Emilio Lozada, Cuba’s Director General of the Bilateral Affairs department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba is in China on an official visit. The working visit signals the continued growth and strengthening of bilateral relations between the two nations.

Relations are at an all time high between the two countries and have been in existence for more than 50 years in terms of political and commercial matters.

China holds first position as Cuba’s major trade partner in Asia. Globally, China is in second place.

Chinese imports of Cuban products include pharmaceuticals, sugar, rum, tobacco and seafood.

Chinese consumer and electronic goods are found in homes throughout Cuba. The Asian nation is heavily invested in transportation (Yutong buses, railway infrastructure), telecommunications (Huawei), information technology, manufacturing, food, electronics, education and health.

Cuban and Chinese officials continue deepening ties with an exchange of top level working visits to each other’s countries for political, commercial, military, scientific and cultural dialogue.

The Minister Lozada’s visit to China is a stop on his tour of Asia which included his participation in the 50th Pacific Islands Forum held in Tuvalu on August 16.
