The National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INRH) reported that China donated construction equipment to assist with drought conditions in Cuba.
The donation of the equipment will improve the water supply, clean pits, unblock sewage systems, as well as the conditioning of sanitation brigades for the hydraulic resources system.
The project will benefit the population of the provincial capital cities and urban/suburban communities with over 300 inhabitants.
The donation of 449 pieces of equipment by China includes high-pressure de-clogging trucks, pit cleaners, mobile air compressors, lighting towers, bulldozers, backhoe loaders, motor graders, vehicle cranes, thermo fusion welding machines, generators, and other equipment.
The initiative began in 2014 and was signed in September 2019.
The pandemic affected the project implementation, delaying the internal bidding process.
The Cuban Government, INRH, and the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment received the equipment at the port of Mariel in early October,
INRH director, Fermín E. Sarduy, said the coordination is underway to start equipment implementation. Equipment will be available to two business groups served by the INRH presidency.
In this way, they will fulfill project objectives to benefit approximately four million people. It will also make it possible to move equipment from the state reserve system.
Last month, China donated construction equipment to Cuba to help advance infrastructure and tourism projects, and to support works at airports. In fact, China has made many donations over the years, including medical supplies during the COVID pandemic.
