Cuba’s Foreign Affairs Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla met with China’s Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, on the sidelines of the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Rio de Janeiro. The meeting was held on April 29. The two sides exchanged views on strengthening cooperation between the BRICS, China-Latin America.
During the meeting, Rodríguez acknowledged the strong ties between Cuba and China. He confirmed that regardless of changes, bilateral ties will remain firm on the path of building socialism. He expressed his gratitude for China’s trust and support for Cuba, and willingness to maintain close high-level exchanges to deepen solidarity and cooperation.
On his X account, Rodriguez said:
“The BRICS have established themselves as a pillar in building a more just, equitable, and inclusive international order. Their existence and strengthening are a necessity in a world marked by centuries of great disparities and and the burden of a concentration of wealth in favor of a privileged segment of countries and population groups, in which systemic and multidimensional crises prevail today, with a severe impact on the economic, social, climatic, and environmental spheres in general.
Wang Yi confirmed those links.
“President Xi Jinping and President Díaz-Canel reached an important consensus on joining hands to build a community with a shared future between the two countries, leading the new era of China-Cuba relations and maintaining a high level of cooperation.”
Yi also condemned the illegal and genocidal US embargo against Cuba, in place for over 60 years. He confirmed:
“China appreciates Cuba’s firm defense of national sovereignty and national dignity in defiance of power, and will continue to support the Cuban people in their just struggle against foreign interference and the embargo. China is willing to deepen cooperation with Cuba in all fields and help the country enhance its capacity for independent development.”
