After the participation of the Henry Reeve medical brigade in Lombardy supporting Italian medical personnel at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Italy and Cuba met to discuss further collaboration in the health sector.
For this reason, the Cuban Ambassador of Italy, José Carlos Rodríguez and the Italian Deputy Minister of Health, Pierpaolo Sileria met to discuss ties.
At the meeting at the Cuban embassy in Rome, the best way to structure stable and beneficial cooperation in health was discussed, according to a note issued by the diplomatic mission.
The Ambassador gave the Italian Minister a draft Memorandum of Cooperation which included medical science between the Ministries of Health of both countries.
The resurgence of the coronavirus in Italy makes collaboration with Cuba more important than ever. Collaboration with Cuba can provide Italy with Cuba’s trained doctors and its range of medicines developed for Covid.
Both parties also discussed the situation of COVID-19 in the two nations, while the ambassador explained the progress made by Cuba in controlling the pandemic, and the recent reopening of its borders.
Jorge Luis Alfonzo, the Minister Counselor of the Embassy, Manuel Jacoangeli, Counselor of the Italian Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza, and Chiara Cappelli, assistant to the Deputy Minister also attended the meeting.
