Cuba Not Reopening for Tourism Just Yet

Cuba’s Ministry of Tourism announced last Friday it will not reopen its borders just yet. The Tourism industry will start up again when it is safe to do so.

According to the Ministry’s official website, “Borders will not be reopened for the moment, nor will the touristic services be restored, in keeping with guidelines to protect national health security.”

While the tourism industry has been closed in Cuba, the Island has been renovating and improving hotels and tourism facilities across the Island in preparation for the eventual opening when safety permits.

Responding to false reports on air ticket and reservation sales for travel to Cuba, Dr. Francisco Duran, the National Director of Epidemiology stated that the country is still involved with the COVID-19 pandemic and recovery.

On March 23, Cuba closed its borders to non-residents in its efforts to contain the spread of the COVID-19. On March 31, Cuba suspended international flights as part of the measures to control the spread of the infection.

Since the first appearance of COVID-19 cases on the Island on March 12, 1,862 infections and 79 deaths have occurred.
