ETECSA, Cuba’s telecommunications company, is about to launch internet services on mobile phones over the next six months. The Company continues to make technological improvements to the mobile telephony infrastructure. By the end of the year, some five million customers should have access to the internet on their telephones.
Cuba’s Communications Minister Maimir Mesa Ramos had earlier stated that the country is working to improve and expand internet access and expects to deliver internet access to mobile phones via 3G and 4G technology soon.
The installation of 3G and 4G technology and the progress in regional data centers mark the advances in the infrastructure of mobile telephony and internet connectivity on the Island.
Since the end of the last year, mobile data plans have been available for sale by ETECSA to embassies, Cuban journalists, and companies.
Wifi internet access is already available in Cuba at tourist hotels and internet cafes.
