Joaquín Alonso Vázquez, current president of Casas de Cambio (CADECA S.A.), has assumed the position as the Minister-President of the Central Bank of Cuba (BCC). He will take over the role which Martha Sabina Wilson González, has served in since 2019.
Ms. Wilson, the former Minister-President of the BCC will move on to other responsibilities in her career.
The position of Minister-President lasts for a duration of three years.
The Council of State, at the proposal of the President of the Cuba, with the approval of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Party, agreed on the promotion of Mr. Alonso.
Mr. Alonso, 59 years old, has a degree in Finance and Credit, a Master’s Degree in Business Management and Improvement, and has held different positions within the banking sector. Between 2000 and 2010, he was Vice President of CUBALSE, leading Economics and Finance.
Until 2017, he held the position of Vice President of Banco Popular de Ahorro. In 2017, he became the President of the non-banking financial institution, the Casa de Cambio S.A.
He is a delegate of the People’s Power, Vice President of the Asociación Nacional de Economistas y Contadores de Cuba (ANEC)(National Association of Economists and Accountants of Cuba) in Havana.
Throughout his career he received postgraduate training, qualifying him for his new role and responsibilities as Minister-President of the BCC.
