ROC Hotels has announced a new partnership with Cubanacán S.A. for the management and marketing of the El Viejo y el Mar Hotel in Havana. Operation will begin January 1, 2024.
A Spanish company, ROC Hotels manages a total of 2,254 rooms across the island.
ROC Hotels currently operates five hotels in Varadero, Havana, and Cayo Santa María. This last destination was incorporated at the beginning of 2023, after the signing with Cubanacán for the administration and marketing of a 5-star hotel with 800 rooms.
The announcement was made after Pedro Martin Graciani, adviser to ROC’s president and supervisor for ROC Caribbean, told HOSTELTUR they were completing a deal for a new property in Havana.
The Old Man and the Sea hotel, renamed Hotel Roc El Viejo y El Mar, is in the Marina Hemingway, 15 km from Old Havana and 20 km from the José Martí International Airport.
Hotel ROC El Viejo y El Mar is a 4-star hotel offering 176 rooms, four suites and six cabins. It features four restaurants with both local and international cuisine and Ernest Hemingway’s favorite dishes.
Other amenities include a snack bar, lobby bar, pool bar, swimming pool with a children’s area, a recreation center, and a gym within the complex.
ROC’s Other Hotels in Cuba
While this is the only hotel deal Roc Hotels has signed with Cubanacán, it is not their first collaboration. ROC Hotels currently operates five hotels in Varadero, Havana, and Cayo Santa María. The other ROC hotels include the Presidente in Havana, ROC Varadero, Arenas Doradas, the Barlovento and the Casa del Mar.
Pedro Martin Graciani said that they managed the Hotel ROC Santa Lucía in Camagüey but left after severe hurricane damage.
The Hotel ROC El Viejo y El Mar was incorporated at the beginning of 2023, after signing with Cubanacán for the administration of a 5-star hotel.
ROC’s Future in Cuba
In addition to El Viejo y El Mar deal, ROC Hotels and Cubanacán are considering adding other hotels to the portfolio.
Graciani said, “Now we are also looking, with them, at another hotel that we could incorporate in the near future.
According to Graciani, “The objective plan (in Cuba) is to maintain the number of facilities and grow only if interesting opportunities present themselves. “
