Summit of the Americas 2015

The seventh Summit of the Americas 2015 is to be held at the end of this week on April 10-11, 2015. Heads of states from the Americas will be present to discuss issues concerning North, Central and South America. The Summit is an official event which occurs every three years.

Taking place in Panama City, Panama, the Summit’s principle theme is “Prosperity with Equity: The Challenge of Cooperation in the Americas.” Other sub-themes which will be discussed include the topics of education, democratic governance, health, energy, environment, security and migration.

At the last Summit held in Columbia in 2012, all countries voted that Cuba should attend the next Summit in Panama. Interestingly enough, this year’s Summit occurs in the midst of discussions between the US and Cuba.
