Developers at technology company Desoft (Empresa de Aplicaciones Informáticas), Cuba’s leading software development firm, are working on three software projects at its Granma offices to improve services in the energy, construction, and water and sanitation sectors.
The water project, an application that will make it possible to pay bills online, is in the most advanced stage of the three. The Desoft team began the construction and energy applications more recently.
According to Rafael Báez Guevara, Deputy Director at Desoft, the energy usage platform controls nation-wide energy management and follow-up on plans, consumption levels, trends and other indicators. The application will be available online and make it possible for clients to pay account bills online.
The construction project, according to Desoft’s Deputy Director, focuses on the sector for managing bill payments and business activities and other longer-term goals of the sector.
Director Gabriel Solano Zamora said Desoft’s development strategy for 2021 includes plans to strengthen the work team involved in exports and diversification of projects to find additional sources of foreign currency.
Desoft also continues to provide services to clients and increase its contribution to other e-commerce programs in line with Cuba’s plan to computerize society, he added.
Desoft started up in 1998 and now employs over 2,000 employees; more than half are I.T. engineers. It has 16 offices throughout the country. The company specializes in applications for mid and large enterprises, and it has over 5,000 licenses of an accounting software program.
The company also offers services to the private and cooperative sectors in tune with ongoing economic transformations in Cuba.
Desoft most recently completed the VUINEX and VUCE digital platforms for the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment (MINCEX). These two programs are designed to simplify and expedite foreign investment procedures.
