The follow is a press release of the recent US – Cuba talks which recently took place in Havana during the week of June 25. US Senators visited Cuba to engage in further high level discussions. The First Vice-president of the councils of State and Ministers, Miguel Díaz-Canel received visits from two Senators of the US government and other Foreign Affairs Ministers. Current issues pending resolution in the Senate include lifting the travel ban on Americans traveling to Cuba and removing the US imposed blockade/embargo of Cuba.
“The First Vice-president of the councils of State and Ministers, Miguel Díaz-Canel, met on Friday in Havana with Patrick Leia, Democrat Senator for Vermont and emeritus pro tempore president of the U.S. Senate, who is on a visit to the island accompanied by Benjamin Cardin, Senator for Maryland and leader of Democrats in the Committee of Foreign Affairs of the Senate, and by Dean Heller, Republican Senator for Nevada.
Participants in the meeting, also attended by Josefina Vidal director general of the United States Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other officials of the Foreign Ministry, talked about relations between Cuba and the United States and on the debate under way in the U.S. Congress on the removal of the ban on travel to and trade with Cuba and on the lifting of the blockade.”
US – Cuba talks are ongoing in hopes of resolving all outstanding issues between the two countries.
