In response to a request of the government of South Africa, Cuba will send the specialized Henry Reeve Medical Brigade to provide assistance and support in combating the COVID19 (coronavirus) in that country.
The Cuban medical team will arrive today on a special flight by South African Airways at the O.R. Tambo International Airport just before midnight.
The Cuban medical brigade is made up of 217 health professionals including family physicians, epidemiologists, biostatisticians, healthcare technology engineers, biotechnology experts, and others. The team has been carefully selected to ensure maximum expertise and knowledge in the planning, execution, and management of clinical cases as well as the public health response.
They will be deployed in different provinces of the country, in accordance with the strategic plans designated by the Department of Health.
Currently, more than 1,200 health professionals of the Cuban Medical Brigades are already deployed in 22 countries at their government’s request, assisting in the fight against the COVID19.
Cuba is playing the leading role globally during the COVID 19 crisis by providing the greatest amount of international assistance during this pandemic. These are times that require international cooperation and solidarity.
