The Armor Committee of the Association of Cuba Coopération France (CubaCoop) has sent a donation of medical equipment and hospital furniture to the province of Cienfuegos.
CubaCoop sent more than 20 tonnes of medical equipment and hospital furniture to the province of Cienfuegos. The € 90,000 donation, consisted of beds and mattresses, wheelchairs, clinical examination tables, and dental chairs. Fundraising efforts by the Organization also raised more than € 10,000 for the shipping of the containers.
The shipment left France on March 24, docked at the Port of Mariel and then arrived in Cienfuegos on April 24.
The French organization also donated € 30,000 to support the work of hundreds of Cuban healthcare professionals now serving overseas in twenty medical missions assisting in the COVID19 pandemic.
The donation was organized by the Committee from the French region of Brittany, and is a part of the Santé Bretagne Cuba project.
“This gesture of our Committee in Brittany contributes to the efforts of the Cuban healthcare system in the fight against Covid-19, a task that does not stop and already has collected 100 new beds,’ CubaCoop’s president Victor Fernandez told the Cuban press.
Earlier this month, Fernandez sent a letter to the French president Emmanuel Macron requesting intervention to end the 60 year U.S. blockade against Cuba.
Founded in 1995, CubaCoop contributes to local development projects by mobilizing funds between different municipalities and French organizations. The Organization works with various Cuban institutions and finances development projects.
CubaCoop is a non-profit organization representing the French descendants of families from Cienfuegos. Since 2006, the organization been involved in 80 cooperation projects with Cuba.
