Japan to Donate Medical Equipment to Hospitals and Polyclinics

A new cooperation agreement between Japan and Cuba has been signed for a humanitarian donation of high-quality medical equipment for emergency services in hospitals and polyclinics throughout the country.

The agreement is valued at 500 million Japanese yen (USD 4.7 million) and is set to arrive in the first quarter of 2021. The donation falls under the classification of Non-Reimbursable Financial Cooperation of the Japanese Government. It aims to strengthen the Cuban healthcare system in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is the first international aid agreement under the newly elected Prime Minister of Japan, Yoshihide Suga.

Déborah Rivas, the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment (MINCEX) formally signed an Exchange of Notes to formalize the granting of the donation from the Japanese Government represented by His Excellency Mr. Fujimura Kazuhiro, Ambassador of Japan.
