Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery Congress Begins September 5

The Cuban Society of Plastic Surgery and Cauterization is hosting its second International Congress of Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery to begin on September 5 and run until September 7. This important plastic surgery conference will take place at the “Hermanos Ameijeiras” Surgical and Clinical Hospital in the capital city of Havana.

The venue of the Hospital and the city are ideal for two reasons. The Hermanos Ameijeiras Hospital is recognized as one of Cuba’s leading medical centers for medicine and plastic surgery. The historical center of the city of Havana was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982 and, in 2015, was officially recognized as one of the New Seven Wonders Cities of the World.

The Congress will present the central theme of “Safety in Plastic Surgery.”

Other topics to be covered at the conference include: implants, oncological reconstructive surgery, lipotransfer and the comprehensive care of the burn patient. Plastic surgeons, residents, researchers and other allied health professionals interested in extending their knowledge to improve the quality of patient care and outcomes should attend this conference. Attendees will also have the advantage to observe firsthand the current state of Cuban aesthetic and reconstructive surgery.

At a press conference at the National Council of Scientific Societies of Health, Dr. Rafael Rodríguez Garcell, President of the Organizing Committee and la Sociedad Cubana de Cirugía Plástica y Caumatología, said that safety in plastic surgery is one of the most important topics addressed in the geographical area due to the complexity of this type of intervention.

The Congress of Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery event is sponsored by the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) and the Ibero-American Federation of Plastic Surgery (FILACP), Las Sociedades Científicas de la Salud, and other prestigious national and international organizations.

Attending the Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery Congress will be medical experts in aesthetic and plastic surgery from Cuba and the Latin American region, former presidents of the Society of Plastic Surgeons, and plastic surgeons trained in Cuba and abroad. A delegation of Italian specialists was also invited to participate in this health conference because of their earlier participation and contributions to the X Congreso Internacional de Cirugía Italia – Cuba 2018, held in May of this year.

The Conference will provide an excellent international forum for sharing knowledge and experiences, networking among doctors, plastic surgeons, researchers, professors and colleagues. It will provide the platform for debate and promote strategies in the face of the current challenges of the aesthestic and reconstructive surgery specialty.
