Cuba and Vietnam Sign Trade and Cooperation Agreements

An official visit by Vietnam to Cuba resulted in the signing of a number of trade and cooperation agreements, signaling the continuing strength of bilateral relations between the two nations.  Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, met with President Raul Castro as well as Second Secretary of the PCC Central Committee, Jose Ramon Machado Ventura, Politburo member and President of the Cuban National Assembly, Esteban Lazo Hernandez, and Politburo member and First Vice President of the Cuban Council of State and the Council of Ministers, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez.  Also present were executives from 23 Vietnamese companies. Vietnam and Cuba have shared lasting bilateral relations since 1973 when former president, Fidel Castro paid a visit that year.  The nation is Cuba’s second largest trade partner in Asia, after China. The agreements were signed in Havana, at the Melia Habana Hotel. The signing of the cooperation agreements are expected to encourage more favorable conditions for Vietnamese imports to Cuba, assist in the creation of inter-country business events, foster information-sharing on consumer trends and and boost important export ties.  Agreements in the tourism sector, science and technology, food industry, renewable energy,  justice, and consumer goods and construction materials…
