Cuba Initiative Celebrates 25 Years

The Caribbean Council, a consultancy and membership organization, will be hosting the Cuba Trade and Investment Mission, June 17 to 20 in Havana. The event is designed to support trade and investment between the two nations, and is part of the consultancy’s Cuba Initiative.

The initiative, now in its 25th year, supports British investment on the island, corresponding to the strong ongoing bilateral relations between the UK and Cuba. This relationship was most recently highlighted by the historic visit in March by HRH The Prince of Wales’s to Havana and the November visit of Cuba’s President Miguel Diaz-Canel to London.

British parliamentarian Lord Triesman, Chairman of the Cuba Initiative, will lead the mission and Cuba’s Minister of Foreign Investment and Trade, Rodrigo Malmierca will welcome the group on Cuba’s behalf.

The mission is limited to UK registered companies or companies with substantial UK content and will focus on investment projects in Cuba‘s four priority sectors, Biotechnology, Pharma and Health Care, Renewable Energy and Energy (Oil & Gas), Financial Services, Agriculture & Food Production (food processing and packaging).

The Caribbean Council consultancy focuses on private-sector led investment in the Caribbean and Central American region, and its Cuba Initiative is carried out in partnership with the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Havana (UKinCuba) and the Cuban Chamber of Commerce.

The Cuba Trade and Investment Mission is designed to provide potential investors with information about the Cuban market along with a chance to network with key decision-makers from a wide variety of business sectors. Expert support and advice will be available from the CI and Department of Trade market-based staff who will assist in identifying potential export/investment projects.

The event includes a series of workshops, one on one meetings and a field trip to the Special Development Zone at Mariel.
