Cuba Tourism Statistics—October 31, 2023

Cuba’s tourism statistics grew again for the month-end of October, reaching 1,973,085 visitors for 2023. The new data brings it closer to the Ministry of Tourism’s (MINTUR) target of 2.5 million visitors.

Cuba, which lifted COVID-19 travel restrictions in early 2022, has experienced a recovery, although somewhat slower than other Caribbean destinations.

Tourism, a critical component of the economy, continues to rebound after global pandemic disruptions.

With regards to Canadians, they continue to represent the largest market source for Cuba, with a total of 748,976 travelers this year.

Cubans abroad were the second largest source of tourists. The numbers should increase over the Christmas season when families traditionally get together.

Russians are still traveling to Cuba, encouraged by the convenience of the MIR bank card on the island, and the resumption of direct flights by airlines Aeroflot and Rossiya.

Despite travel limitations imposed by the US government, the Americans represent the fourth largest market.

European travel continues to climb but remains weak because of the imposition of the ESTA visa waiver program by the U.S. government.
