A French company, the EDF Foundation, has granted 50,000 euros for the construction of a renewable energy training center for students in the city of Cienfuegos.
The EDF Foundation is a French electric utility company partly owned by the French government with headquarters in Paris. They are working in collaboration with Cuba and the Association Cuba Cooperation FranceCuba (CubaCoop), a non-profit organization representing the French descendants of families from Cienfuegos.
CubaCoop was founded in 1995. The association works with communities, companies, sponsors and organizations to develop cooperation actions with various Cuban institutions and to finance concrete development projects.
The 50,000 euros donation is designated for the construction of a renewable energy training center construction in Cienfuegos.
Construction will begin in the first six months of next year.
Young students will be able to train at the center in the field of renewable energy studies to fight against climate change.
This renewable energy project is in line with the Cuban government’s agenda of renewable energy goals and also supports the government’s decision to boost import substitution in the green energy sector.
