Not only do health conferences take place in Cuba’s capital city, Havana, but they have also been scheduled in the resort town of Varadero, about an hour’s drive from the city.
The most popular places for conference locations is in one of three five star hotels in Varadero. Two of those hotels are the Meliá Cuba brand, the Meliá Marina Varadero, and the Meliá Varadero. The other hotel used for a conference site is the Iberostar Laguna Azul.
Varadero is seen as a more relaxing environment in which to hold a conference because attendance can also include some time to explore the town and the amazing beaches on the Hicacos peninsula.
Some of the examples of these recent conferences include the 2016 the Center of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) international workshop on “Emerging Targeted Therapies in Cancer & Autoimmunity” at the Iberostar Laguna Azul Hotel.
This past December, the U.S. non-profit organization MEDICC ran a very successful 20th anniversary conference on the theme of “A Healthy Cuba, Healthy World: Linking Culture, Community & Cooperation” at the Meliã Varadero.
VacciPharma 2017’s second edition of its congresses spotlighted immunological research and the development of vaccines. It took place at the Meliá Marina Varadero. International guests included scientists, manufacturers, regulators and healthcare workers.
