In its third year, the Havana Glasgow Film Festival (HGFF) 2017 opened last night in Glasgow, Scotland. We spoke with Co-Director and Founder of the HGFF, Eirene Houston. Eirene works with Co-Director Hugo Rivalta (from Havana) to run the Festival each year. It’s the second day of the Festival, and Eirene is in a rush and her phone battery won’t recharge. We cornered her and she had enough time to answer a couple of our questions.

T.K. Hernández is co-founder and editor at Cuba Business Report. Her work has been published in various online news media publications. She has supported fundraising for Cuba’s last two hurricane disaster relief campaigns and is a member of the Cuban Friendship Association. Ms. Hernández is the author of three books, most recently, “The Cuba Interviews: Conversations on Foreign Investment and Economic Development,” (Palgrave Macmillan, 2023).
