Australia’s Melbana Energy Limited has released an update on the progress of drilling operations at its Alameda-1 well, Block 9 PSC. Work will begin on September 13, 2021, subject to the remaining equipment, materials, and staff arriving in Cuba on schedule.
The Company owns a 30% interest in the 236 million barrels (best estimate) being tested in this drilling program. The Block 9 program comprises two exploration wells testing four separate targets. Materials and equipment have been received in Cuba and transported to the location near Varadero. Other materials and equipment are expected to arrive this week.
The support staff of the drilling operations has been hired and their travel arrangements are in the process of being completed.
Melbana has completed the drilling rig inspection. Several issues identified in the inspection are being addressed and not expected to impact the start date of drilling.
Preparations and discussions for the second exploration well, Zapato-1, are underway.
Sherritt International, Melbana’s drilling contractor will provide its Rig No. 1 for use in the Block 9 drilling program.
