In its third year, the Havana Glasgow Film Festival (HGFF) 2017 opened last night in Glasgow, Scotland. We spoke with Co-Director and Founder of the HGFF, Eirene Houston. Eirene works with Co-Director Hugo Rivalta (from Havana) to run the Festival each year. It’s the second day of the Festival, and Eirene is in a rush and her phone battery won’t recharge. We cornered her and she had enough time to answer a couple of our questions.

Hernández has supported fundraising for Cuba’s last two hurricane disaster relief campaigns and is a member of the Canadian Network on Cuba. She is also a member of The Writers Union of Canada, and ACES International Alliance of Editors. Ms. Hernández is the author of three books, most recently, “The Cuba Interviews: Conversations on Foreign Investment and Economic Development,” (Palgrave Macmillan, 2023).
