Devox Caribe S.A. Begins to Manufacture Paint in Mariel

The plant of Devox Caribe S.A. officially began operations in the Mariel Special Development Zone (ZEDM), with the production -in a first phase- of flexible paints for walls, waterproofing, wood and floor varnishes, and surface preparation, all based on water.

This Mexican company has a factory that uses high technologies for the manufacture of paints and coatings, and has an installed capacity of 15 million liters per year. In a second stage solvent based paints will also be produced.

The plant, located in Sector A of the ZEDM, also has automated processes and state-of-the-art technologies, which makes it one of the most modern in the region, as well as being distinguished for its contribution to environmental sustainability, by using several alternatives for saving water and electricity.

An elevated platform allows the painting of the tanks to be unloaded in the packing machine by gravity, without the need to use pumps, energy consumers. In addition, the building has a cover of translucent solar panels that provide lighting during the day and allow to obtain electricity for the operation of some processes of the plant.

Devox Caribe S.A. it benefits from the policies of the ZED Mariel to promote the use of renewable energy sources, which provide non-fiscal incentives to the operating companies.

Currently, the factory delivers its surplus energy to the national network and the Electric Union pays it at the same price charged for the energy generated from fossil fuels.

The company is gradually inserted into the productive chains of the country, and obtains part of its raw materials in the local market.

Devox Caribe S.A. is a subsidiary of the Mexican company Devox-General Paint, which has exported its products to Cuba for 25 years. Since its opening, the ZEDM has 19 operating businesses.
