INDUSTRIA ARTHIS S.A., a joint venture between the Italian company L.R. MORONI S.L.R. and the Cuban company NEXUS S.A., a subsidiary of the Grupo Empresarial de la Industria Ligera (GEMPIL), has begun the manufacturing of disposable diapers in the Special Development Zone of Mariel (ZEDM). ARTHIS S.A. was established in October of 2017.

The Italian company has actually been in Cuba since 1994.

Arthis S.A. assumed the construction and operation of the production plant with four lines of manufacturing via high level environmentally-friendly technology. The financing of the joint venture company was completed by Nexus in association with L.R. Moroni.

L.R. Moroni is a company with a background in the design, construction and marketing for the production and automatic packaging of sanitary napkins in Italy.

Arthis will supply the domestic market with diapers for children and adults, meeting one of the challenges faced by an aging population. The diaper products will be available in chain stores throughout Cuba at affordable prices. The goal is to replace current imports.

The Italian-Cuban company Arthis will provide employment opportunities to more than 50 Cubans living in the area; that number will double over the next year of production.
