The Italian Association of Private Hospitality (AIOP) of the Lombardy region sent a donation of humanitarian aid to assist Cuba in its battle against Covid-19 on Monday.
The donation of sanitary materials was coordinated by the youth members of the regional AIOP group with the support of businesses from San Donato, Gheron and Mantova Salus.
“We try to restore a little the generosity that the Cuban people showed by sending us their doctors and nurses,” explained Michele Nicchio, the regional vice president and president of AIOP of Italy.
“No one will ever forget the three months in which Cuban healthcare professionals had been at our side to fight the pandemic in its hardest peak,” he said in a statement.
Nicchio remembered the Cuban healthcare workers of the Henry Reeve Medical Brigade who came to the Lombardy region in Italy to fight the Covid-19 crisis in 2020.
Cuba controlled Covid-19 with success last year, but is now facing a tough battle because of the lack of medical supplies, AIOP’s vice president said.
On August 23 another shipment from AIOP will leave for Cuba, also with the assistance of the international freight company, Vector and Neos Air.
Nicchio explained, “this is the origin of our gesture, supported logistically supported by Neos Air and Vector.”
